Big Girl Room Reading Nook and Cutting Edge Stencil Giveaway

I am so flipping excited to show you Eleanor’s reading nook. Last week I shared a mood board, AKA- my plan for her reading nook.

Closet to Reading Nook Mood Board #biggirlroom

The Cutting Edge Stencil- Herringbone Allover is the key piece to this reading nook. It defines the space and is that little extra something special.

And because EVERYONE loves a good before.

Closet Before #biggirlroom

I absolutely love, love, love how it turned out. I cannot wait for little E to see it. She is going to love hiding away in there and looking at her books.

There is a cushion and some pillows tucked in there. The letter pillow matches her drapes and I made it (click here to see how). I literally could stare at this space all day.

Doesn’t that stencil just make it a moment? Eek.

I used Benjamin Moore paint in Wild Aster and the Cutting Edge Stencil Herringbone Allover. For those of you interested in the whole stenciling process, check out this video.

I made the letters from the crafty cardboard ones and covered them in paper I found at World Market with the same pattern as her drapes. The bookshelves are gutters.

Eleanor’s big girl room is coming together nicely. Next up we will be talking carpet squares. I know…exciting, right? If it all comes together as nicely as this stenciled reading nook, I will be one happy momma! You can check out her big brother’s room reveal here.

Room Reveal: Red & Gray, chevron wall, gutter bookshelves

Cutting Edge Stencils has a blog with lots more inspiration for those of you who are considering stenciling a space. This is my second go with a Cutting Edge Stencil. I also used the Nadya Damask to stencil my living room drapes and a faux roman shade for the dining room. Cutting Edge Stencils is also kindly offering to give away a stencil of your choice, valued at $50 to one lucky winner.

I would love to have you follow me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter. I love connecting with you all.

**I have posted about hanging the gutter bookshelves & other FAQ along with everything I know about carpet tile.** You can find more inspiration in my project gallery and be sure to check out my house tour.

Bummer, I somehow missed the giveaway! But I adore her reading nook — I know where a sweet little girl will be spending some quiet time! πŸ˜‰
    xo Heidi

    • Megan Bray

Post just went up today. I must have the date on the raffle copter wrong. And thank you!

  • Ann Marie

I’m in love with this space, and especially that stencil with the colors you picked. It’s girly yet fresh and modern. Great job, can’t wait to hear how much she loved it! :)

    • Megan Bray

Thanks Ann Marie. I can’t wait for her to see it either!

  • Christina’s Adventures

I seriously love the Casablanca allover stencil – gorgeous!!

    • Megan Bray

Thanks Christina. I would love to see what you would do with that stencil.

  • Danielle

My favourite is the birch tree stencil. I so want it.

    • Megan Bray

      Fun! Good luck :)

  • Jess

Love the Nagoya All Over…the birch tree is a runner up. The reading Nook looks great! You’ll find that she looks through her books more often-at least that’s what we found when we put up rain gutter shelves in our sons’ room.

    • Megan Bray

Yes, we have rain gutters in my son’s room too. Definitely encourages reading :)

  • Kelli Gase

I’m in a tree phase lately, so I love the birch tree stencil and most of the tree and bird stencils!

    • Megan Bray

Birch tree seems to be a popular one :)

  • Kathleen Leonard

    Love the stenciling!!!

    • Megan Bray

      Thanks Kathleen.

  • Jen

I love how it turned out!

    • Megan Bray

Thanks Jen….me too! I always get nervous about my vision until it I see it.

  • Ashley at the BWF

I want to do this in my daughter’s closet! Given she’s only 5 months old, but I can just imagine how fun it will be for her when she’s older! haha I like the peony allover stencil, but I think I’d do a pink tone on tone look. Thanks for the chance to win!

    • Megan Bray

Never too early to start planning. A pink tone on tone would be gorgeous!

  • Courtney ‘Staatz’ O’Dell

Looks so comfy- and I am loving that herringbone!

    • Megan Bray

      Thanks Courtney :)

  • Rachel Rothstein

    I love the spring birds!

    • Megan Bray

I want to see spring birds! Another winter storm heading our way :(.

  • Tiffany Malloy

  • Kelly Peairs

I love the Marrakech Trellis Craft Stencil!

  • Evie Spearman

Where did you get the gutter shelves? Also, is the curtain panel from pbk?

    • Megan Bray

Evie- The gutters are literally gutters from Home Depot. Just cut them down to the size you want and add the endcaps (sold by gutters). We drill right through the gutters to attach them to the wall, but you can buy gutter hangers (just more money). My inspiration curtains for her room are from World Market, but the curtain hanging on her reading nook is actually a shower curtain (on sale) from Urban Outfitters. Hope that helps.

  • Kim Berch

great job! looks fantastic! I was going to IKEA ledges, but now contemplating the gutter gig. :)

    • Megan Bray

Thank you! Sadly, Ikea is a long haul for us. Probably better on my bank account. We did gutter bookshelves in my son’s room (and we didn’t even spring for end caps) and it has held up perfectly for 2 years.

  • Valerie Jordan

I love cutting edge stencils! I have two already – they’re awesome. I would love to add the

Verde Damask Stencil to my collection :)

    • Megan Bray

Ooh…what have you stenciled? I love seeing other people’s projects.

  • Steph@The SillyPearl

Zinnia has always been a fave of mine.
The reading nook is beyond adorable! What a lucky girl!

    • Megan Bray

Thanks Steph! I feel pretty lucky to have her :)

  • Sara Carter

Ooh, I LOVE the Nagoya allover stencil! Thanks for the giveaway!

    • Megan Bray

You are welcome! Best of luck :)

  • Ann Marie

Oh, too many great options! Either the retro stripe or the tribe allover stencils. Thanks for the giveaway!

    • Megan Bray

      You are welcome. Nice choices.

  • Hometown Perch

How fun! I have a space under my stairwell that I want to do something with for my niece. You’ve inspired me to figure it out.

    • Megan Bray

Ooh! I’m always jealous of under stair spaces. We have stairs to our basement, so no fun nooks and crannies. Lucky niece!

  • Dawn Reuter Godek

i’d love to use one of the closets in my girls’ room for a reading nook-love the polka dot all over stencil

    • Megan Bray

  • Kristin Bodnar

Love this Megan! Cannot wait to try the gutter thing in our kids rooms after the move :) And I have been drooling over the stencils!

  • Sarah Cook

I love it! I want to go read books in there. I also love the chevron all over stencil.

    • Megan Bray

Thanks! We did my son’s room in chevron, but of course that was before the chevron stencil :)

  • Brianna

Looks great! I can’t wait to utilize the space and read with that little girl.

    • Megan Bray

Can’t wait to have you home! :)

BTW- I love Cutting Edge Stencils! They are awesome! I think I would like to try the Chevron All-Over one next! :) Thanks!

    • Megan Bray

Thanks Allison. This the closet in her room. At 21 months she doesn’t use a closet quite like I do ;).

I am totally loving that stencil!! Your nook is amazing! Great job and thanks for the chance!!

    • Megan Bray

Thank you for the kind words. You are welcome & best if luck!

  • Joanna M Sargent

Might I ask if you had the cutters cut to size? Can you do that at a hardware store? I have been planning the same thing in my son’s room, and it’s all finished but the shelves! p.s. the herringbone is my fave!

    • Megan Bray

We didn’t have them cut to size, but I’m sure a place like Home Depot or Lowes would go it for you. If you are using end caps, make sure you take them into account when measuring/cutting. We used a miter saw (chop saw). Best of luck!

  • Mandy

    Love the room:) Thank u!

    • Megan Bray

      Thank you!

  • Gilit Cooper
