How awesome is it that you just found me? Let’s get familiar. I’m Megan. I am 29, unless you are reading this after January 19 2013, in which case I am now 30 or older and will no longer be updating my age. I think I am funny. Perception is reality, right?

I grew up in a family of 6 (Mom, Dad and 4 kiddos). I am a twin and often refer to my brother as my womb-mate. We are one hot family.

80's Family

Clearly. Product of the 80’s. It got better, I swear.

In high school I was kind of hard core.

Or not. Probably more not. I played soccer, ran cross country and track and even did a year on the dance team. I was once escorted out of a high school basketball game by a police officer (more on that here).

I am a Mad Grad (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and that is where I met my husband. I double majored in elementary education and English and husband was an art (emphasis in graphic design) major. We married in 2006.

And lived happily ever after. Mostly. I mean, except when we aren’t, which happens. But mostly all happy. My husband is the Director of Design, Digital Media and Branding and I was a teacher until I decided to stay at home with my little munchkins in May of 2011. We bought a house in SE Wisconsin (which we talk about a lot here) and popped out some kids (we talk about them a lot too) and then I got this crazy idea to start a blog. Why not?

Blog friends meet the offspring, offspring meet the blog friends.

Offspring have been named: Quinn (Oct. ’06), Eleanor (May ’11) & Hudson (April ’13). More offspring are planned for the future….I dunno, 4? 5? They are completely awesome little human beings. Life with them is always an adventure and they literally make every.thing.worth.it.

Some very important things you must know. I love polka dots, bows and changing things up. I am a magazine junkie. I love coffee. My sister and I have been known to try to recreate the final dance in Center Stage. Our go-to move, the broom. If you haven’t seen it, rent it. If you know what I am talking about, Holla! We are going to be bff’s fo’ sho. I dream of owning a mini-van. Seriously. I think family is the foundation for everything in life. I am crazy in love with the family I am making and the family I was raised in.

I need to be in pretty spaces. Seriously! Like have.to.be. In fifth grade my dad asked me if I ever day dreamed. My answer was “Yes, I think about how I would rearrange the classroom and organize it and decorate it”. I guess I was always destined to be a teacher turned blogger of home/decor/diy/craft/stuff.

I am a backseat designer and leverage my husband’s design skills to create whatever I have dreamed up. He is very patient with me. Be sure to check out our printables page.

So this whole blogging thing is way better than I ever imagined. It is also way more work then I ever thought (like a-lot-of-work). I love the awesome community I have found through blogging. I get all kinds of giddy, I like to call it a blogger’s high, when I get comments. My stats are kind of like the scale. I totally know they don’t define me or my blog, but they totally make or break me. I read each and every comment.

So what is everyone doing hanging around here anyways? Umm…all sorts of amazing reasons, no doubt!

You can check out plenty of inspiration in our project gallery.

But most of all, we really love sharing, connecting and getting to know you.

I think what I am trying to say is: Thanks for visiting. Stick around. Follow me. Drop a comment. Let’s rock this club house!

Yup, that just happened.

the baskets you have in your living room – where did you get them?  i love the size!

    • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

The big baskets next to the desk with the little chalkboard labels are from Target. The have big round ones and other sizes too! At our Target they are kind of by the candles and fake flowers. Hope that helps. (They do go on sale too).

Just found your blog and loving it so far! You had me at twin. Then Eleanor. Since I have twin daughters, one of whom is named Eleanor. (Actually you had me with those killer living room curtains, but the kiddo stuff doesn’t hurt.) Newest follower here :)

    • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

What fun! I’m still hoping for twins. Mostly because I want 4 kiddos, but only wanna be pregnant one more time. That, and I love being a twin. What is the other twins name? Thank you for the compliment on the drapes. Glad to have you following along :)

      • Erin

Our other daughter is Penelope. It never EVER occurred to me that we could have twins — hello shocking ultrasound — but it has turned out to be one of the best surprises that I never would have signed up for in a million years. I’ll cross my fingers for you :)

        • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

Shut the front door! We narrowed it down to Penelope and Eleanor. LOL! That is way, way too funny. Were definitely mean to find each other. DEFINITELY!

      • Erin

Oh my goodness, I must be the most inept commenter in all of blogdom. Did I respond yesterday? I thought I did. I’m new to Disqus and clearly fumbling around a bit….Anywho, I meant to tell you that my other daughter’s name is Penelope. It never EVER occurred to me that we could have twins, but it’s turned out to be the best surprise that I never would have signed up for in a million years. I’ll cross my fingers for you :)

I just found you via Sweet Rose Studio. You should know Center Stage is one of my go-to movies to have playing while I sew. I do believe we will get along.

    • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

Love it! Tell me you know the broom move?

      • http://www.facebook.com/kcozart05 Kellye Cozart Arnold

If you refer to Cooper using Jody’s butt as a broom, I do! However, Cooper’s epileptic seizure move in the mid section of the dance always makes me laugh.

Sweet Rose Studio is how I found you as well! I have never been here before, but I loved your “About Me” so I’m gonna keep reading for a bit! Thanks for being entertaining!

Yay! Hope you enjoy yourself and stick around. If my charming personality doesn’t do the trick, I will bribe you with free printables and giveaways ;).

  • Nicole Snead

I have an Eleanor and she is also 1. :) I’m so happy to have found you because so far the only other Eleanor’s we have met are 60 and above, lol.

How fun! Clearly you have good taste :). Classic and unique :)

OMG… stumbled across your site… started looking at prints and realized you are from RACINE. My hubby and I both grew up there :) We moved to Indiana about 8 years ago. Our parents are still there. What a small world.

    • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

A very small world it is!

  • Philippa Mijuho

It is such a relief to stumble onto your site. I also have a small house and find it hard to get ideas from home decor blogs of people living in large houses. You have made a gorgeous home for your family.

    • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

I’m glad you stumbled here too! Thank you for the kind words.

My family and I live in SE Wisconsin, too (South Milwaukee) and I, too, have my degree in education. :) I love when I find Wisconsin bloggers!

    • http://www.balancinghome.com Megan Bray

Too funny! My husband is from South Milwaukee.

Hi. Found your site today. Love your printables. I’m trying to start a “business” creating canvas prints and want to use free printables. Can I use yours to resell on my canvas art? I’m 42 and disabled with a brain injury and paralyzed arm from a car accident. Always been great at scrapbooking and trying to transfer these skills to make money because I can’t work. Let me know! Thank you!!!

Hi Megan! Nice job on the basement temporary craft room! The W clock caught my eye. I went to UW Madison to become a teacher. I too have the affliction of mentally rearranging and updating my friends’ homes, classrooms, etc! I just (not only in my mind) designed a bar/taproom for a micro-brewery we invested in here in Colorado. It’s been a thrill to see the Idea come to fruition! You have a great site. Keep up the creativity!

  • Kallie Olsen

Megan, I LOVE your “Wash Your Hands” printable! Do you have it in any other colors? Thanks!

  • Willow

Hiya ~ you sure have ideas and things involved all over the place and that is fantastic! So now I’m hoping you’ve worked with giving old brass lamps new life. My daughter just moved out to her first apartment. Her color is a deeply pigmented red. I would love to refinish the lamp in this red. Once, long ago, I heard brass could be painted?? This lamp is a goodwill lamp and in pretty good shape, and oh, what fun that would be.
