Twenty-five Dollar Living Room Refresh

Recently I got the urge to rearrange furniture in my living room. We cannot move, we don't have a lot of money so rearranging furniture is one way that I make things feel fresh and new. When we finished moving things all around I said to my husband, "what do you think?".  His response, "Feels like 2014". And it does, because this room has been set up like this before. There are some slight variations. The beauty of rearranging furniture is you clean places you do not normally clean and you purge/edit your belongings. Aside from rearranging the furniture, I splurged and picked up a few ...

My Daughter’s Bedroom

If you recall from this post, when we found out we were pregnant with baby number four, we started a room shuffle. Everyone switched rooms and not one room is finished. The baby's room is a pile of stuff, our room is awaiting some sort of clothing storage miracle, the boys have their mattresses on the floor and just this one gallery wall done, and Eleanor's clothes are sitting in plastic tubs while we wait for a dresser. Part of the reason everything is sitting in disarray is time and energy, but the biggest reason is money. We kind of had our "face the music moment" and after sitting ...

TV Credenza Makeover

This post brought to you by Faultless/Bon Ami Company   . The content and opinions expressed below are that of Balancing Home. I hate ironing, therefore I love starch. Anything to get the job done quicker and keep it crisper longer. Starch isn't just for ironing! I used starch to hang some gold polka-dot burlap fabric along the back of our TV credenza. That, along with a little spray paint for the handles, really dressed up our free/hand-me-down TV credenza. We took out the shelf and wiped everything down. Starch makes burlap shrink, so I wouldn't cut your piece to size before ...

A Patriotic Porch

I don't know if you happened to catch our porch makeover. Last year we finally did something about the dated wrought iron and ratty carpet. You can check out all the details here. To give you an idea of how bad it was, I leave you with this: I'm super excited to announce that our porch makeover was featured in the June issue of This Old House magazine! Since the holiday decor came down, I've been itching to get this porch ready for the spring. We got our porch all pretty just in time for Memorial Day. Spring was slow-coming here in Wisconsin. We went to ...

Chalkboards & Globes

My collection of globes found a new home. I added a fun disco ball, because a little sparkle never hurt anyone. I drew this ampersand, which was inspired by street chalk art I had seen. Obviously, not nearly as good. This wall is always fun to decorate for the holidays or celebrations. This time around, I was looking for a little more simple and evergreen look this time around. Hudson's second birthday is just weeks away, so now it is time to figure out what is next. Feel free to check out my Parties & ...

Boy’s Room Gallery Wall

So by now you realize my, must-switch-all-the-rooms-right-now-chaos, stems from finding out we are pregnant. Barely pregnant, but all of the sudden it just made sense. I mean, does lugging furniture and bending, sorting, and mass chaos sound like a good idea at 8 months pregnant? I think not. So the boys took over our room. The room is a work in progress, but today I wanted to share the one part that is kind of done. The pictures frames came from Hudson's room. Quinn told me he wanted them filled with pictures and not art. Each of the boys already had a lamp in their room. ...

That Giant Space Above the TV

I'm kind of an obsessive re-arranger. It is one of those things I do. I've been that way as long as I can remember. Me and my bestie would rearrange our rooms and make plans to decorate it on a shoestring budget monthly. Oh, and I was 11. So it comes as no surprise that the living room just got rearranged again. Love this gallery wall surrounding the TV. With a few tweaks, the gallery wall stayed, but the TV left. I picked up this giant frame at Goodwill. I popped out the art, painted the frame and used the staple gun to attach chicken wire. I found the chicken wire at ...

Boy Room Updates & Locker

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Gladiator® GarageWorks for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine. It is no secret that we are big Badger fans around here. Both my husband and I met at Wisconsin (check out our first "date" here) and graduated from there. My sports-obsessed Badger fan HAD to have this locker from, Gladiator® GarageWorks in his room. It is pretty sweet. It has a shelf, and hook inside. Quinn's room was ground-zero of my "get rid of all the things" rampage, which you can check out here. It got a fresh coat of white and a few other updates along ...

Thanksgiving Journals & Christmas Shelves

Well we made it through our first week post-Thanksgiving break. We really enjoyed our break. With Quinn in school full-time (kindergarten), having him for a whole week made it feel like the good old days! To top it off, Ross was off of work Tuesday-Sunday. The kiddos fit in two sleepovers and we had two days of Thanksgiving. We also took a trip to Chicago. We were able to spend the day at the Museum of Science and Industry and then grab dinner and dessert in the city before shooting up 94 floors to top of the John Hancock building. The view was gorgeous! Over break, we saw Big Hero 6, ...
