DIY Fabric Flower Hair Clip

Fourth of July morning, before the parade, parties, beach and fireworks, I decided to craft myself a hair clip. Yes, on a holiday, amongst the chaos of getting children ready, packing necessities and getting out the door on time, I NEEDED to craft a hair clip for myself. The husband didn’t understand either.

You see, back when I was making my Fourth of July flip flops, I made a few extra fabric flowers (using this fabric flower tutorial). All along I had envisioned this clip. I just never got around to it….until Fourth of July morning, of course.

See, I match. Okay, so the fabric flowers require some hot glue and a tad of fabric. Find that tutorial here. I have used this flower making process for the flip flops, my Valentine wreath, Eleanor’s E and of course, this hair clip. To turn your fabric flowers into a fancy smancy hair accessory, you will need: felt, hot glue, a barrette and an eye for style. I dug up a barrette from the bottom of a bathroom drawer. No joke. I like to keep things classy.

I played around with the placement of the flowers on the felt. When I felt like I had an arrangement that rocked I hot glued the flowers down.

Then I snipped around the perimeter, cutting off the excess felt. Lastly, I hot glued the felt to my barrette.

Then I wore it like I meant it and celebrated the Fourth of July in style.

Obviously blue and white polka dots are good year round, so you will see me rocking this bad boy on a few occasions.

Truthfully, I had grand intentions of crafting a matching clip for Eleanor too. Ahh well. Maybe later. What accessories have you been rocking lately?
