Once upon a time we went to a movie and bought a soda in an embarrassing large cup. If you ever find that your better judgement has failed and you have a cup the size of your head, there are things you can do to remedy your guilt. Know that the obscene amount of money you spent for a movie theater drink was not all in vain.
As we were leaving the theater I was all, “Don’t throw that away! I can make something with that.” Some might say hoarder. I like to say recycle, inventive, reuse, GENIUS! Because really, who knew garbage could look this good?
I am proud to say that I rocked that giant-big-as-my-head-cup and created a rope vase/utensil crock (whichever you fancy).
I used the free overly priced soda cup, my hot glue gun and rope I had once picked up from Goodwill for $1.99 to complete this project. The rope was another hoarder episode. The one in which I NEEDED the rope for some unknown, upcoming project. This rope and this cup are success stories. They are the supplies that ACTUALLY got used. Many are still waiting for their moment.
This is really a basic craft. I simply started at the bottom and worked my way up. I hot glued as I went along just wrapping the rope around the cup. When I finished wrapping I cut the rope from the remaining rope. I dabbed a bit of hot glue on both ends so we didn’t have some sort of unraveled disaster.
I immediately thought of two uses for my creation.
I am pretty sure a first grader could do this, so I am not quite sure why I am so giddy over this project. I just love the texture of the rope and I guess I love how a Goodwill find and garbage (ultimately) came together to make something: a.) useful and b.) beautiful.
What do y’all think? Any other craft hoarders out there? Any of you up-cycle something lately?
