This week/weekend has been so crazy packed that I couldn’t even fit into one post. Well, at least not one post anyone would read. Wednesday, the 16th Hudson turned 1! This is baby #3 for me and I swear that with each kid, time just keeps going faster. I don’t know how we got here so quickly.
We started off his birthday with pancakes. This boy likes to eat.
We went to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. Last time we were there was in the fall and Hudson pretty much slept through the whole thing. That is, when we weren’t stopping for nursing breaks. It was fun to see him really take it all in for the first time.
Hudson also got to ride down to Chicago in style. He is no longer in a carrier car seat.
We moved him into a convertible one and It seems like he has a better view out the window. He is still rear-facing though. His birthday was absolutely fabulous. We topped it off with his favorite dinner—cheese ravioli. He could out-eat you, no joke!
We celebrated Hudson’s birthday with famliy on Friday. We kind of had a parental fail, because we also scheduled his one-year check-up for Friday. He had to get four shots and a blood draw. It all worked out okay in the end. The good news is: we have a big, healthy boy!
We kept things pretty simple. We recently replaced the mirror in the dining room with three chalkboards–a trip tic. I dressed up the boards by painting the frames gold. I had already made the tassel garland back on my tassel garland kick (I shared a tutorial here). The robots were cut with the Cricut using some scrapbook paper I had on hand. I just pinned them up using mini-clothespins. Twine and clothespins were also on hand. The “Hudson is one” banner was also made on the Cricut.
The cupcakes are Funfetti and the cookies are those break-apart kind. I topped them off with more goodies from the Cricut.
Ross picked up flowers when he was grabbing the cupcake mix. It was one of those 3 bunches for $12. The colors were perfect! we threw some candy in dishes and called it a day.
We ordered pizza, another one of Hudson’s favorites. Everyone was shocked by how much he ate. We followed that up with cake–his first.
He was a little slow to dig in, but in the end he was a fan.
After cake was presents. We got him a sand table. He really seemed to enjoy the one at my in-laws. Surprisingly he didn’t try to eat the sand so it seemed like a good idea. I knew the older two would love it too.
It was a hit! Hudson wasn’t overly into opening gifts. Luckily he had a big brother and sister to help him out.
He did enjoy the gifts, just not very interested in opening them.
He also thoroughly enjoyed the balloons—a childhood wonder, much like bubbles.
Just for fun, I thought I would compare all three of the kiddos on their first birthday.
We are excited to see how Hudson changes and grows and how his personality emerges. We are just taking it one day at a time are in no hurry to leave any of the stages are kids are in.
