My life is moving faster then I can write about it. We have been crazy busy and it just keeps going all the way up to d-day. This weekend we rearranged the living room, took a mini road trip to Ikea and I co-hosted a baby shower for my twin brother and his wife. I keep thinking, once I finish x we can slow down. And then a new project pops up.
Today I want to talk about Eleanor’s big girl room. I have a few more posts to share and one more project to finish, but Eleanor is sleeping up in her big girl room.
The transition was WAY smoother than I ever imagine it would be. She really, really likes her big girl room and her big girl bed. I guess it shouldn’t be such a surprise, because she takes great pride in climbing up on the kitchen chairs and sitting like a big girl. Plus, her big brother (who she adores) is up there. We were watching Super Why the other day and they had a princess in the pea skit and Eleanor points at the TV and says, “big girl bed!”. It hasn’t been all rainbows and lollipops. The girl is like a ninja. I will barely hear a rustle on the baby monitor. Often for naps I will have to go back upstairs and put her in her bed a few times before it sticks. She always smiles at me and says, “Ok mommy”. Of course that doesn’t mean she will actually listen. She is sleeping way better at night in her big girl bed then she was in her crib, go figure! I, however, am stupidly staying up late. In a month, when baby is here I will regret not sleeping when I could. Palm to head.
She loves her reading nook. We have found her playing in there and sleeping in there.
I just wanted you all to know she is moved in and doing well. One of these days I will get up there and get some full room shots and share the video of her room reveal. For now, we are talking hardware. Hardware is one of those things you don’t think about when you are thinking about budgeting for a room redo, but then you go and pick it all up and you are like, hot dang this stuff is expensive! It adds up real quick. For Eleanor’s room we had to replace the wall sconce (it wasn’t working) the room door handle and attic access door handle (they weren’t cute), the ceiling light fixture (bye bye boob light), 16 dresser knobs (needed to be updated), and the pull on the closet light (there wasn’t one). These little details do make a big difference in giving the room a finished look.
Check the little light pull.
For comparison sake, let us check out the boob light.
I adore her light. It is from Home Depot (find it here) and the glam-sparkly-beaded-loveliness is the perfect touch of girly whimsy.
Look how fun it is at night :).
The dresser desperately needed some love. Originally I wanted to paint it, but once I saw the new paint color (Wild Aster by Benjamin Moore) against the wood I didn’t hate it so much. I started to toy with the idea of leaving the wood.
We busted out the big guns. New hardware and Magic Eraser.
Not to gross anyone out, but umm….yeah.
So with a little elbow grease and hardware the built in dresser went from this:
to this:
I kind of lied when I said Eleanor was all moved in. I still have to move her clothes in, but I wanted to line the drawers first. A small, yet annoying job I have been avoiding.
To see more about Eleanor’s room check out her reading nook, all you need to know about carpet tiles, hanging gutter bookshelves & FAQ, inspiration and window treatments, and dressing up the walls. You can check out my entire house tour and find more inspiration in my project gallery.
Anyone else been updating hardware? Anyone else having a crazy busy spring?
