Velvet Pumpkin Place Card Holder & Thanksgiving Table

I had so much making the velvet pumpkins the other day. When I got to putting together a Thanksgiving table I decided I wanted needed place card holders for my imaginary Thanksgiving dinner at the end of October. Yeah, us bloggers are way weird. This is like play time for me though. I had so much fun on the table and mini velvet pumpkin place card holders.

Here is a quick tutorial on how to rock these. Promise they are simple. If the sewing part turns you off, no worries, I can’t sew and I did it.

1. Cut fabric into 10.5 inch circle. I used a Pyrex lid as template.

2. Run a gathering stitch 3/4″ from the edge. This is just a very loose stitch. You pull the thread and the fabric gathers. I YouTubed it to learn how. Pretty simple.

3. Gather loosely.

4. Fill the bottom of the pumpkin with Poly Pellets. This weighs the pumpkin down, giving it a stable bottom.

5. Set an old fashioned clothes pin upside down in the center, and fill with fiberfill. Pull the gathers tightly around the dowel rods and secure with several stitches.

6. Affix coil (9 inches) by tucking one end in opening.

7. Slide name card in slot.

I am so in love with these. I snapped a ton of pics, because I never know what is going to turn out. There were just too many beautiful shots for me to pick, so please excuse me while I inundate you with photos of my velvet pumpkin place card holders and Thanksgiving table setting.

I warned you there would be a lot of photos ;). Directions on how to make the velvet pumpkin centerpieces can be found here. All supplies for making both the velvet pumpkin centerpieces and the velvet pumpkin place card holders are from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Wine glasses are from Crate & Barrel and were a wedding gift. The white dishes are a wedding gift from Pottery Barn. The chargers and napkins are from World Market. I picked up the flowers from the grocery store and put them in mason jars. The candle holder and candles are from the Dollar Store. The burlap runner is from Kmart. I went to a million stores looking for a plain runner. This one actually has leaves stenciled on it, but when I flip it over you can’t see them. Winning ;).

I am so proud of these little mini velvet pumpkin place card holders. The little twist with the clothespin to make it a name card holder feels like the most genius idea I have ever had. LOL! Okay, I may have had others, but I am really digging this idea. I am totally here to inspire so craft away, but please send people here for a tutorial and never take more than one photo. Thank you.

Confession: I don’t even host Thanksgiving dinner! I sure do love having a pretty table though. So whether you host or not, I say bust out a pretty table just for you and your family. Another very inspiring use of these stuffed pumpkins can be found over at Tatertots & Jello where she made a Fall Houndstooth Pumpkin.
