On July 15 we celebrated 8 years of marriage. We had no sitter lined up and no true plans. It was a Tuesday, after all.
At first I was bummed. I think marriage is a pretty big deal. I think two people choosing each other, working day in and day out to make a household work is a big deal and raising people, good people, as a team is something that shouldn’t be glossed over.
The kids were pretty excited that it was our anniversary. We went through wedding pictures and talked about the day and what it meant for us and for our family. I told the kids that today was a special day, because it was the day that we became a family.
Eleanor was convinced the picture of me and the flower girl was her. She was bummed she wasn’t part of the celebration, but she was! This seemingly ordinary Tuesday was by far a bigger deal then July 15, 2006. That day was a celebration of marriage in theory, this day was a celebration of actual marriage.
Suddenly, I was grateful that we were celebrating our anniversary with the people our love made. I was honored to model for them love and celebrate our commitment to each other and our family.
