Apparently if I name every five things Friday post, Five Things Friday — the internet gets confused, hence the 3. If you are dying to know what other five things you missed– checked back here: Five Things Friday 1 and Five Things Friday 2.
1. I cut my hair!
After not doing anything with it for a year or two and basically living with it in a knot on my head, I decided to cut it off. It doesn’t fit in a ponytail, which might as well be my security blanket. I love it and don’t regret it one bit. It is a bit of an angled bob. It dries quickly, takes a few minutes to run a straightener over it and I feel infinitely less scrubby.
And in even crazier news I booked a follow up appointment in eight weeks. Not sure what I will have her do, but I’m excited. This whole taking-care-of-me-stuff is kind of fun!
2. We got really into the World Cup. I actually grew up playing soccer. I played club and varsity in high school. It is a game that I love. Quinn started playing too and he is at this age where he is starting to get invested in watching sports. He was really pulling for the USA and was completely devastated when they lost.
It was actually really sweet. He got himself dressed that day and put on his old white soccer jersey. He told me he was wearing his white one, because the USA played today and they wore white. He was completely blown away by Tim Howard. Who wasn’t? Now he wants us to shoot on him so he can practice saving the ball. We spent plenty of time talking about how much fun we had watching the USA play, and how hard they tried and proud we were of our team. Obviously, only one person/team can win and it isn’t always going to be yours. Life lessons.
3. I bought a swimsuit.
Take a moment and let that sink in.
I haven’t been in a swimsuit since Summer 2010. In fact, it was a tri-suit.
Excuse the awful picture. I was actually 5 weeks pregnant with Eleanor in this picture. This was weeks before I went back to work, teaching full time, put Quinn in day care and was exhausted from growing a baby. All the work that went into losing the baby weight from Quinn and getting into triathlon shape went out the window. Two more kids and all the baby weight later–a swimsuit was the last thing I wanted to wear.
In fact, I didn’t even have one and just never found the time or courage to shop for one. I was tired of sitting on the sidelines. I bit the bullet and got a suit. I spent four hours in the pool with my kids on Sunday.
It was completely worth it. So if you are still sitting on the sidelines–Don’t. Life is passing you by and nobody is going to be at your funeral talking about how you looked in a swimsuit. They will talk about when they worked up the bravery to swim to you or when you swam around with them on your back.
4. I have been blogging for 3 years. I had Eleanor in May, had just gotten over that three month hump and looked around after the fourth of July and thought–why not? I didn’t know what this blog would be, what exactly I would share or what in the world I would be talking about 3 years later. My kids are at an age where they need me, they don’t nap on me anymore. I refuse to blog while they are awake. The computer can suck you in and eat up all your time. Tiny beings can tug at you and need you and you are “busy”. You “one more minute” them to death. That means I can blog after they are in bed, early in the morning or here and there on the weekends when they are hanging out with dad. That time is also my time to catch up on things around the house, exercise, sleep, etc. In this particular season of my life, I don’t blog as much as I would like to, but that is okay.
5. I read two books. The One and Only by Emily Giffin and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. The One and Only was what you would expect from an Emily Giffin novel. Fun, quick read. I definitely wanted it to end differently. Gone Girl was good in the sense that it had me captivated. I had to know what happened. It was awful in the sense that it was twisted and disturbing and the ending made me want to throw the book. I’m currently trying to figure out what to read next. You all left some good suggestions on my Facebook page and I welcome some more here.
