Before Hudson was born, like right before Hudson was born–I’m talking 38 weeks pregnant– we gutted our bathroom. It was pure craziness. The toilet was sitting in the nursery, I was peeing in a Home Depot bucket and we were bringing home a new baby (our third) in a week. You can read more about that insanity here.
First of all, let us be clear on one thing-that vanity was rotting, disgusting, grossness and it was HUGE! We have one, not very big bathroom and that vanity took up more then its fair share. I, of course, was instagraming this chaos. Isn’t that what normal folks do? So when my online friends saw this giant piece-o-crap vanity being moved out and a pedestal sink going in they were all, “you are going to miss that counter space” and “where are you going to put your things”.
But I knew I wouldn’t. I was confident in my decisions. I had lived with this bathroom for 5 years. I cleaned out this vanity to prep for the remodel. You know what happened when I cleaned it out? I found stuff that had been sitting, stuffed to the back, buried in that vanity. Lotions and potions I had for years and years and hadn’t touched. That counter top space was just a place to leave a mess. That vanity was a place to stuff unnecessary stuff. I don’t miss it!
Hello simplification!
Here is what I love about our new bathroom. It only holds what we use and what we need. There is no place to stuff junk or leave out a mess. The medicine cabinets.
I love having everything I need right at eye level. Perfectly organized and ready to go.
One little trick for keeping things handy is to adhere a magnet to your medicine cabinet. Then your tweezers and clippers are always handy. Is it just me or is that the kind of thing you are always digging for?
I also find that I am constantly taking rubberbands out of my hair and needing rubberbands, so I dedicated a simple drop spot by adhering a removable hook inside the vanity.
The medicine cabinet on the right is pretty much all girly stuff. If someone is brushing their teeth or what have you and I need to put my face on or something–I am camped out in front of this medicine cabinet.
Clear acrylic organizers are great for organizing. They look clean and make things easy to find. My entire day-to-day makeup routine is right in that bag. I can quickly grab it, do my face there or on the go and clean it up and store it with ease.
It is so much easier and quicker to get ready now. With three littles–I need that. Aside from simplifying our space, I have simplified by routine. I started using BB cream. Have you all tried that? It evens out my skin, offers sun protections and is one of those all-in-one type of products. I love it! I also got the chance to try out a new line from hello.
I love it. I’m completely smitten with the packaging. I think having beautiful things in a beautiful space is really important. I took the time to back the medicine cabinet with contact paper and it feels good to open the cabinet door and see cute toothpaste and cute mouth wash.
I never really thought about my toothpaste, what was in it or how good of a job it was doing. Weird, I know. This stuff rocks. I use to get the worse morning breath and have this really awful taste in my mouth. I don’t anymore. I actually forgot to brush my teeth the other day. That could have never happened before. I kept telling my husband that this stuff really works. It isn’t something you notice when you are brushing your teeth, but later on–the way your mouth feels, the way it tastes. So he tried it and now he is hooked too. Although, he does want a different flavor when we buy our next bottle. He is more of the traditional mint kind of guy.
