I hate ironing, therefore I love starch. Anything to get the job done quicker and keep it crisper longer. Starch isn’t just for ironing!

How to update a credenza or shelf with some starch, fabric and a little spray paint. Super simple and affordable.

I used starch to hang some gold polka-dot burlap fabric along the back of our TV credenza. That, along with a little spray paint for the handles, really dressed up our free/hand-me-down TV credenza.

We sprayed the wood and the back of the fabric with starch and then applied the fabric to the wood, spraying the starch on the front of the fabric and smoothing it out with a straight edge (ruler). hanging-burlap-with-starch-tv-credenza-19

We then used a rotary cutter to trim the edges.

Okay, so I left the cutting job to Ross. As I was taking this picture Eleanor said, “this smells good”. She also wanted to know why we weren’t covering the entire TV stand in gold polka-dots. She is a fan.

We also updated the hardware with some gold spray paint.

Then we filled it back up with DVD baskets and the DVD player.
