Embroidery Hoop Art

With Eleanor’s room update and the little pumpkin turning one on Saturday (AHH! How did that happen so fast?), I thought I would whip up something special for her room. I have been totally crushing on embroidery hoop art. I have seen lots of people put fabric they adore inside, but I wanted something a little more special for Eleanor. (You know? Turning one and all.)

I went to Walmart to pick up some Painters Paint Markers by Elmers. You can find out more about how to #ExpressYourself with Elmers by checking them on Twitter and Facebook.

At first I had a mini panic attack, because I couldn’t find the Painters Paint Markers. I did one more lap through the craft aisle and duh! right in front of me. I have no idea how I missed them.

Rumor has it they are sold individually, but I only noticed them in packs at my Walmart. There were two color choices.

I also picked up an embroidery hoop and some embroidery fabric for a few extra bucks.

To get started I taped down some wax paper (In case it bled through, it didn’t.) and my fabric to hold everything down as I went. As far as planning goes, I traced the circle of my embroidery hoop so I knew the size. I know, I live life on the edge.

The Painters Paint Markers were super simple to use. Just shake and push down the tip to get started.

Now that the paint is ready to go, it is time to get crafting. Wanna get in my head for a moment? Here is the progression of this piece.

I was really happy with how the Painters Paint Markers worked. I felt like I had complete control. They wouldn’t all of the sudden spit out a ton of paint and mess up my project (as evident by its beauty).

I love how cheap, simple and fun this craft project was. Seriously, I felt like a middle schooler doodling away in her notebook. It would be super easy to customize and could make a great DIY gift for a baby shower, wedding, new homeowners, etc.

The Painters Paint Markers work on so many surfaces (glass, fabric, wood, metal, plastic, pottery, paper, ceramics…OH MY!).  I have to admit, I am pretty excited to try them out on glass. After our glass painting party (you can read about that here), I am super curious how these would work out. Any surfaces you are itching to try them on? To learn more visit Elmers and catch up with them on Twitter and Facebook.
