For the Sake of the Children

When the Christmas decorations came down Eleanor was all about, what comes next? She was constantly asking to decorate.

I didn’t feel like decorating, but it just made the kids so darn happy that I couldn’t help but share in their joy. Just a little. Kids have a way of doing that to you–of making you see the world just a little differently.

WATERCOLOR-VALENTINE

I had this package of doily hearts sitting around that I gave to the kids, along with some watercolors and I let them do their thang.

I still had two nails in the wall from where I hung my “Merry Christmas” banner so I tied a knot in some twine and hung it from nail to nail. Then I took some mini clothespins I had on hand from this instagram project and hung up the kid’s watercolor hearts. Easy Peasy!

It now appears I somehow accidentally stumbled upon a watercolor theme so I went with it. I let the kids do some water colors on a blank sheet of paper. I then traced letters and cut them out. I attached those letters to a sheet of poster board using some good old scotch tape and threw it in a frame. This is all stuff I already had folks.

Then I decided to paint some arrows. I had fun with it, perfect was never the goal.

Pop some flowers in a vase. Those I bought from the grocery store.

Minimal effort, time or money and a whole lot of fun for the kids and bam–Valentine shelf.

I admit–I bought the pitcher. It was on clearance at TJ Maxx and it was all big and white and beautiful. Plus, it is my birthday on Sunday so Happy Birthday to me. That, and I truly didn’t have a proper vase.

WATERCOLOR-VALENTINE-MANTLE

This is the dining room wall that I am constantly changing up. It is between the kitchen and living room in our open floor plan. By decorating this one spot, it is kind of like I decorated the whole house. You can see a whole bunch of other shelf arrangements here.

My kids love painting. They do it daily. I love when they are engaged in an activity. Kids always need a positive place to put all that energy! Next week I have another fun thing the kiddos like to do that I will be sharing with you.

Will you be decorating for Valentine’s day? Do your kiddos love decorating for holidays too?

Check out last years valentine printable, how we celebrated Valentine’s day and our Valentine mantle.
