It is hard to believe that just a year ago I was fretting over sending my baby off to Kindergarten. Okay, the transition was rough! Sure, we stumbled a bit before finding the right fit, but it all turned out to be more then okay in the end. In January Quinn started at his new school and Eleanor started school for the first time.

One of my favorite things Quinn brought home from school was his writing journal. I loved seeing the things he had to say and the way he illustrated them. I certainly have no intention of being a drill sergeant over the summer, but I would like to keep things fresh in his mind as he heads into first grade.

We already do a lot of reading–a habit we developed when he was just a baby. We decided to work on his writing over the summer, he could keep a writing journal. We created these fun journal page printables. The cover page can be colored and customized to your child’s liking.

The line underneath JOURNAL is for their name.

Slide the Journal cover sheet in the front of binder or staple a book together.

The writing page has two lines on the top. We used those lines for the title and the date. The box is for the illustration and the lines are for their writing.

The best bet is probably to make a whole bunch of copies of the writing page and give your printer a break.

Quinn is well-trained in maintaining his own writing journal. I just plan on setting it up, along with his writing and coloring supplies and letting him do the rest. Aside from practicing his handwriting, spelling, creating clear sentences and practicing forming and getting his ideas across–he will have a nice summer journal. I think keeping a journal is a beautiful thing and I love the idea of instilling the habit of journaling at a young age.
