When your favorite store (Target) partners with one of your favorite brands (Stride Rite) it is pretty much always awesome. While roaming Target, as I so frequently enjoy doing, we checked out the Surprize shoes for Hudson.
Nothing like finding out your child that has been running around in size 8’s, needs a size 10, and then right there in the middle of Target you want to cry, because your baby isn’t such a baby anymore.
There is something about knowing that our fourth, and the plan is final, baby is coming this fall that makes this so much harder. I saw a meme floating around Facebook and it made me want to cry.
You will never be this loved again. So on those days when you are feeling stressed out, touched out and depleted, just remember that you will never be this loved again. One day you will long for their affection. So choose a soft voice, choose gentle hands, choose love. -AK (Parenting Beyond Punishing)
I like to believe that my kids are the exception and I will always be this loved and cuddled and needed.
Hudson is at this ridiculously amazing, loving, fun, frustrating age. It takes a lot of patience, consistency and love, but his sweetness and way of looking at the world makes it easier for me to find that within myself.
He loves trucks, trains, planes, boats, garbage trucks and pretty much anything that goes. He enjoys digging, and wrestling. His favorite places to go are the zoo and the park. He likes climbing and sliding and repeat.
Parenting a toddler is this incredible mix of patience, negotiating and above all keeping it together yourself. The worse of days are always because of me. My inability to keep it together, to respond in a consistent, loving way. Some times I have to take a deep breath and remind myself that I have the power to change it all.
Hudson’s big old feet aren’t the only sign that my little boy is growing and changing. His vocabulary is exploding. He is playing with and interacting with his brother and sister more and differently. He is becoming more of a peer. He is finding his place in this family and this world. He is asserting his will and learning when to give and compromise. He has shown an immense sense of calm, tenderness and love with his new baby cousin and it makes me excited for him to be a big brother this fall.
Those reminders of how much your child is changing and growing seem to pop up all over. Whether it is the aisle of Target picking out Suprize shoes or them actually waiting for their turn or using their words to solve a problem, those reminders of change and growth are also reminders of how fleeting it all is. Sometimes I need to just close my eyes, take a deep breath and commit those chubby hands, soft skin, sweet touches and zest for life to memory. By the time you get to kid number three, you are all too aware of how quickly it passes and how much your memory fades. At the end of the day we can only hope that we all look back and it all blends together to make one good feeling.
