So maybe the title is a bit dramatic, but it more or less cuts to the chase. I started blogging right around the time Pinterest started. It took a while for it to catch on, of course. I have been a blog reader for a long time. I love reading blogs for lots and lots of reasons: the eye candy, the glimpse into everyday life, the process of updating a home or space, etc. Then Pinterest took off and suddenly ideas that are valid and good aren't being shared, because they don't have a place on ...
Mom Musings
Five Years, Five Things
Yesterday Quinn turned 5! I had a really hard time letting go of yesterday. There may have even been tears. When I was snuggling Quinn in bed he finally said, "Mom, when are you going to let go of me?" He meant the excessive squeezing and hugging, but I couldn't help but to think of that question in another way. Man is letting go hard. Five just feels so damn old. He isn't a baby or toddler--he is a boy. It kind of hurts. I didn't expect to feel this way. Quinn is so special. I know every ...
The Things They Take Away
Last year, on the last day of school before Christmas break, I was volunteering in Quinn's classroom. Quinn was so excited for this day. It was pajama day, the kids were doing a book exchange, there were crafts, treats and even a magic show. This day had been so hyped up and to my little preschooler it was going to be nothing short of epic. We are at school a total of 5 minutes and I know something is wrong. Quinn is clinging too me, sitting in my lap. This isn't like Quinn-- he is usually ...
Fashion and Week 2 Weigh In
I adopted a little bit of a different attitude this week. I tried really hard to focus on eating well. I didn't have any sweets, candy, junk food, etc. I tried to limit my simple carbs and fill up on vegetables and light soups. I did not count calories. This made me nervous. I struggle with determining what the "right" amount of calories is. As a breastfeeding mom I felt that if I made good choices, I could let my body lead the way. As far as exercise goes I did Just Dance 4 three times this ...
End of Summer Hurrah and Start of School
I know most people think having a baby in the spring is awesome. I have done it twice now and it really kills our summer. It is harder to get going and as a nursing mom, they are so demanding in the beginning. When the kids want to go to the zoo or the park, I have a brand new baby that will roast in his car seat, cannot wear sunscreen and needs to stay out of the sun. This means one of three things inevitably happen: 1) we go nowhere, 2) we go somewhere and Hudson gets lugged along and I spend ...
